Reflection Towards the Media

Well it has been a great time writing and researching about the media this past quarter and I have to say that I consume a lot of media every day. It has impacted my life through watching all the different brands try to pull me into buying their products. When I don't have anything to do, I am mostly on my phone or television that increases the media that I consume each day. I have never noticed how much advertising stunts that companies do to get the word out of their new and amazing products.
Being aware of the media's advertising techniques has made myself more cautious and have a better perspective of not jumping to the conclusion that I really want that product just because it's on television or my favorite stars are liking the brand. Before I was always being pulled in and attracted to new products because I would always want to try them because it was something I've never seen before. Another reason is I would use the ad populum fallacy and I would want to go along with the latest food trends. However, my media consumption habits have changed over the semester because I have never been so involved with analyzing the media before, which has raised and increased my media consumption. Another reason is that I wasn't doing any school sports, which increased my free time to watch advertisements on my television screen.
It is important to have media literacy because if we are unaware of the media shaping our perspectives on what to buy, then we would spend our money or follow whatever product was to our liking rather than looking at how good the product/company is.
Through this blog, I was able to look and see a new world around me that I've never experienced before. I was never caught up with the media, so writing articles on this blog helped expand my zone of seeing how the media constructs society and everything that people do or see is altered by the media. Also, I never thought of how many techniques that are used to sell a brand to citizens and the marketing of teens in America.
For the last time, Stay Frosty My Friends and I think this is the end of DT's Frosty blog and I hope you all we will have fantastic day consuming more and more media stunts!

Walmart and its Relationship W/ Customers

walmart_casestudy_design_logo-1_959_487_90_c1.jpg
Walmart gets the customers of lower middle class families and uses the effect of trying to bring them together in order to help save families money and time. Walmart's savings will help American families lower the cost of buying goods at stores and making it cost-efficient so families will be able to spend their money on other things besides groceries and snacks. This helps bring families together because the money that is saved could be used for a nice dinner or maybe even a fun activity like going to Disneyland or go-karting. Anyways Walmart uses the techniques of simple folks because most of their advertisements involve simple middle class families that are always trying to find a way to keep their family happy and healthy while spending their money wisely. Since Walmart is key on bringing the community together, this would make them the correct place to go shop at because of their cheap selection of goods. Wrong, I wouldn't spend money at Walmart because the real families that shop at Walmart can get ghetto and actions could happen at any moment at the Walmart near Sacramento. Even though Walmart portrays families being happy with their low prices, their customer service and selection is quite awful. Honestly, I wouldn't mind spending a couple dollars extra to shop at a better working environment store that makes me feel safe and secured from danger. Also, the goods are probably more fresh at other stores like Target and the local grocery stores because Walmart has low prices because most of the goods are closer to being expired then other goods at other stores that make them cheap. Family Guy Treatment against Women

url.jpg

Hello to all of the "frosty" bloggers out there, today I will be discussing the mistreatment against women in the cartoon show, Family Guy. In Family Guy, the character of Meg Griffin is treated like garbage and is always messed with by her family and even by other classmates that are jerks to her. Some actions done by Stewie, Peter, and Chris Griffin are calling Meg ugly and beating her up until she has a black eye or knocks out from all the pain she endures. These actions have caused Meg to feel like she's worthless and unable to have a social life without being bullied for being herself, so she tries so hard to get cool friends at her school that she is mistreated at the school for being a geek. Family Guy portrays women being useless and only for sexual desires or just for men to use them as play toys for their own personal amusement. Peter uses his wife, Lois, to do whatever he wants and Lois obeys his command showing that women are mere puppets to men in the show, which is outrageous. Is Family Guy trying to show their take on this gender segregation or are they showing how they think men should treat their wives or women? Maybe if men stopped being such jerks to women and women understood their role in society, maybe then we could have balanced roles where women can choose to do whatever they would like, as long as the men don't get in the way of them. Comment down below with your own take on the gender segregation shown in Seth Macfarlane cartoon shows and remember to Stay Frosty My Friends and I'll be back shortly.

Women: Objects rather than Educated Girls

This past week, I encountered myself watching a video called MissRepresentation where women are seen as inferior to men and are seen as objects more than people. In our current society, lots of women portray themselves as being beautiful and showing off their body rather than choosing to be educated and smart because men are the most likely candidates to have better jobs. Because men only expect women to act and dress in a certain fashion, it causes women to be more insecure about themselves that make them want to do what others want them to look like rather than wearing and looking like what they want. There are always men and jerks who tease women for being overweight and tell them to lose a few pounds, so they could look like a regular and up-scaled women in society. Since the expectations for women are so high, this causes them to become depressed because some are unable to look like all the reality stars and superstars like Ariana Grande, The Kardashian's, etc. Also no matter hard they try, they will never be able to meet the standards of these stars that makes them feel unwanted and imperfect.
Since men blow off the women and make them feel unwanted because they aren't gorgeous, women feel inferior and frightened of the power that men have over their lives. This is what makes women only focus on their appearance rather than politics or school. Some women see men as the people who hold the family together financially, so the women don't try to achieve and surpass their husband that makes them weaker. Women need to understand that they need to do what they want and how they want to present themselves to the world or else they will never be able to get out of the shell of being inferior to men. Also, men need to appreciate women and not tease and mess with a women's feelings. If men are able to work together with women and not look at a women's image, but see her view on the world, then we would be able to have a balanced world where opposite genders could attract and create a peaceful world together.

Pitch Perfect 2 with Racism???

Last week, I was able to watch the latest movie of Pitch Perfect 2! The movie was a great comedy, but I realized that the plot of the movie was actually pretty awful. The jokes it contained throughout the movie showed a sense of racism and I strongly feel that American movies are beginning to become an extreme for racism because typical Americans find the jokes hilarious. In the movie, the character of Flo played by Chrissie Fit was a user of racism of her own race. Her character always related to being deported after she finished college and hopping the border and getting away from America because of her Latino/ Mexican descent. I found this extremely funny, but at the same time it was really terrible how they depicted the character through this racism. However, the movie was a decent movie and I fully recommend going to watch the movie because of its comedic events, but if your just going for the A Cappella  then the movie won't be as enjoyable because the music played was quite awful. Another actor in the movie was Keegan Key of Key and Peele that made the movie even more enjoyable and an appearance from the Packers Clay Matthews showing off his dance moves and singing ability off the football field. I feel that the racist jokes didn't pay off that much because some people may take offense to the jokes said in the movie, however racist jokes is what makes America thrive and what makes other countries dislike America. Go purchase your own tickets to the movie and witness these racist jokes yourself and remember to "Stay Frosty My Friends" and I'll be back shortly.

Video Games and its Affect on Teenagers.

As a young teenager, playing violent shooting games and high graphic and explicit gaming is what the media shows through the games that brands make. For Example, Call of Duty has affected many teenagers due to its graphic content and real life action with guns and shooting other players. This affects a teenagers mind and causes them to think about how they could do this in real life, or would like to try it some day because, at this young age, teens do not know that life isn't a video game were we can respawn after we die. Once we are shot and bleed out, our lives are ended and sorrows occur in the process of teenagers going on rampages and shooting on campuses and even outside of school. Some messages that are shown through video games is that they create a risk factor for criminal minds and violent terrorist acts. They create a strong aggression and criminal behavior because of the many guns that are used that affect a teenagers mind because they are still growing and this affects them dearly because whatever happens in the game, they aspire to one day do that too. Teenager's actions tend to thrive off of emotional stress and they can't control their emotions because most teenagers are in the learning process and are hot-headed all the time. Most of the video games have adventure and the thrill of destroying other people in hand to hand combat and with all of this use of violence, it is only a matter of time until teenagers begin to also try out these stunts and hurt themselves. I believe that the media is at fault because they are just strengthening the reason for teenagers to act in this way. If violent video games weren't advertised and sold, teenagers would generally act more polite and not as aggressive as they are now. Images are accurate because most of these war games are warlike features and show real-life ways of murdering other human beings. I predict that the media will bring an even stronger hold on teenagers through the video games and this will cause more trouble and maybe even deaths through violence of emotionally hurt teenagers. Comment down below about your own opinion about video games affecting teenagers highly and remember to "Stay Frosty My Friends" and I'll be back shortly.

Gatorade vs. Plain Old Water

As an athlete, most of the professionals drink Gatorade products or other high amounts of sugary drinks with electrolytes to help them recover from a workout. I prefer the nice refreshing taste of water. Since our body is made up of mostly water, why would we put more sugar into our bodies that is bad for our body? Are Gatorade products really working and making our bodies have more energy to do more or does it just give us a spurt of energy and make us burn out from too much sugar? Water helps with dehydration the best and is the best drink to have while playing any sport. Even though Gatorade products might have all of the substances it says it has, it rots the teeth of athletes and again HURTS OUR BODIES. Maybe we all need to think before we drink and water is the best solution for having a great game and feeling relaxed and hydrated right after. I think that Gatorade might be the game fuel for athletes, but water is the game fuel for champions in my opinion. Now we could have a little bit of Gatorade, but we should drink mostly water so our body can process and work its muscles to its fullest potential. Would you viewers drink Gatorade or water? Is it just for the crisp taste and satisfaction or is it to help your body work? Comment down below and remember to Stay Frosty My Friends and I'll be back shortly.
